After all-nighter study sessions alone in their duplex, Wally would sit at the kitchen table with Nelson at his feet. He would stare at the picture of Artemis wearing the pretty green dress at the Justice League Party, his cell phone piling up with missed calls from his worried parents, and the arrow engagement ring he never got to give her. Dick had told him to pretend to be upset about her “death”, but to Wally, it all felt so real. He had lost her. Dick told him to be optimistic, but Wally had already prepared for the worst. One morning after a whole night of rubbing eyes red and drinking beer, he just couldn’t take it. Enough with lamenting. Enough with leaving things unsaid. Enough with abandoning her. He wanted in.
